JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — The investigation by the Department of Children and Family Services has concluded regarding a tragic incident from last April in which a 3-year-old accidentally shot himself at a residence near Jacksonville’s Westside.
The newly released report contains additional information about the unfortunate event that resulted in the passing of Amari Williams in a home located on Crimson Leaf Lane. Alexander Sibley, aged 38 and the uncle of Williams, was subsequently apprehended in relation to the young child’s untimely demise.
As outlined in the report, Sibley had stored a loaded handgun in the same drawer where he kept candy. At the time of the incident, the child’s grandmother and aunt were supervising him while his mother was taking a shower.
During a moment when the child had wandered off, it was assumed he had gone to his room to play. However, a sudden “loud pop” caught their attention, leading to the discovery of the child’s tragic fate.
Sibley, a previously convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms, had his bail revoked in January after being arrested again for driving without a valid license, in a vehicle containing illegal substances and alcohol.
Sibley appeared in Duval County court on Tuesday for a pretrial hearing.
His trial is slated to commence on September 5th.
