A Winter Haven resident was apprehended while in the process of relocating a murder victim, as reported by deputies.

On Saturday around 11:20 p.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting incident on Deeson Road in Lakeland, within their jurisdiction.

Detectives stated that the victim had gone to a specific location on Deeson Road and encountered Shannon Owens, a 31-year-old individual from Winter Haven. Shortly after their meeting, a gunshot was heard in the vicinity.

Numerous witnesses observed Owens attempting to “transport” the victim’s body, which had suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives mentioned that the witnesses held Owens in custody until first responders arrived at the scene.

“I commend the work of our deputies and detectives who worked hard to determine what happened and hold the person responsible for this murder accountable,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated.

Authorities stated that Owens is being charged with second-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and multiple warrants from other counties.
