A Brooksville resident was apprehended on Tuesday following the discovery of a deceased individual near a Dollar General store.
It was approximately 3:30 in the afternoon when deputies from Hernando County responded to a report of a suspicious person at the shop located on Cortez Boulevard.
Deputies were informed by the person who called 911 that they had discovered a body at the end of a lane that led to nowhere behind the Dollar General.
A possible homicide was indicated by the fact that the body was in the early stages of decomposition, as confirmed by officials from the fire department.
The deceased individual and a person of interest in the investigation were both identified by detectives from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
The individual, R. W. Resca Jr., 53, admitted to the murder and disposing of the body, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Investigation revealed this was an isolated incident, domestic in nature and that there is no threat to the community,” HCSO stated in a news release.
Resca was booked into the Hernando County Jail and charged with second degree murder. He is being held without bond.
