As per the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Leosvany Arias Roman, 22, is now facing charges including Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Deadly Weapon, along with his existing felony murder and vehicular homicide charges.
HCSO also reported the apprehension of Mohammed Ali Pujol, 30, an accomplice of Roman’s, for attempting to collide with a deputy using his car.
Pujol was seated in a silver Mercedes sedan parked beside the white Mustang Roman had been operating when he accelerated toward a deputy. The deputy managed to evade the collision, according to HCSO.
The Tampa Police Department collaborated by initiating a traffic stop and eventually employing stop sticks on North Nebraska Avenue to halt and arrest Pujol. He, too, now confronts multiple felony charges.
“This criminal had no regard for human life. Our deputies, facing danger, had to jump out of the way of a man they feared would run them over to get away,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “The additional charges he faces will ensure the only road he’s ever on again is the one that leads straight to jail.”
Roman faces allegations of a head-on collision with an Uber driver in a Dodge Caravan, which was carrying three passengers. Additionally, Roman is accused of colliding with vehicles from both HCSO and Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash resulted in the tragic deaths of a 33-year-old man from Bradenton and a 52-year-old man from Ohio. Two other individuals suffered severe injuries.
The sheriff’s office emphasizes that the incident is currently under active investigation.
