Three individuals lost their lives in a Thursday night accident on Merrill Road in Arlington, and a man has been arrested on charges of DUI.

According to Jacksonville police, a family was traveling west on Merrill in a Honda Fit when a Ford F-250 driven by 40-year-old Orlando Lopez Vazquez, heading south on Hartsfield Road, collided with the passenger side of their car.

At the scene, two individuals were declared deceased, while a third person passed away at the hospital.

An elderly woman, a woman in her fifties, and a male in his twenties have been identified as the victims of the attack. The driver, a guy in his fifties, had injuries that are considered to be life-threatening.

Just prior to the crash, several witnesses informed the authorities that Vazquez was traveling down Hartsfield in the incorrect direction.

In addition to the six counts of driving under the influence of alcohol that have been brought against Vazquez, he is now facing allegations of driving in the wrong lane and running a red light.

According to the reports of the police, this tragedy represents the 119th person to lose their life as a result of a traffic collision in Duval County in 2018.
