PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. –When it comes to watering their lawns, residents in St. Lucie County will soon be subject to stricter regulations from the Board of County Commissioners.
Residents and businesses in St. Lucie County were informed, through a post made on Facebook by the county government, that water is a natural resource “and should be conserved.”
According to information provided by St. Lucie County, in the year 2021, commissioners decided to implement a watering schedule that limited watering to two days per week for all businesses and households located in the unincorporated parts of St. Lucie County.
Lawns and other types of landscaping may only be irrigated on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., according to the county’s ordinances, and only for properties that have an odd-numbered street address.
On Thursdays and Sundays, residents and companies that have even-numbered street addresses, no street addresses, or who live in multifamily apartments have the option of watering their lawns or landscaping either before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., depending on what time of day it is.
As a result of the Landscape Irrigation Rule, residents who construct a new landscape or a new lawn are permitted to continue watering for up to ninety days. According to the county’s guidelines, new plants that have been in situ for thirty days or less and are eligible for watering might get it five days out of the week.
According to the government, the St. Lucie government Code Compliance officers will be in charge of monitoring and enforcing these limits.
The county also issues a warning that those who breach the timetable may be subject to financial penalties.
