The pursuit of Damian Rios, 25, resulted in a collision with Iglesia Dios Con Nosotros, which is located in Plant City. Rios was taken into custody on Sunday following the incident.
An officer with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reportedly witnessed the car speeding on Willow Oak Road and failing to stop at a stop sign before turning onto Turner Road. This information was provided by the FHP.
Before making an attempt to turn onto Mud Lake Road, the driver allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road, ran many stop signs, and accelerated to a speed of one hundred miles per hour.
On the west shoulder, Rios’ vehicle was involved in a collision with the church. The driver was said to have been unresponsive and staring at his mobile phone at the time of the crash, according to the FHP investigation.
Rios was brought into custody at the Hillsborough County Jail after being assessed at the South Florida Baptist Hospital. After his discharge, Rios was transported there.
The authorities observed that Rios gave out a heavy stench of alcohol from his mouth region, had the appearance of being unstable on his feet, and had bloodshot eyes that were watering.
