A 50-year-old woman was hit and killed by a car on Saturday night, according to West Palm Beach police.
The incident occurred at 10:56 p.m. in the 4300 block of Broadway Avenue, located on the north end of the city, west of U.S. 1. Police received a 911 call reporting the accident.
Traffic homicide investigators determined that a 22-year-old man from Riviera Beach, driving a 2019 Hyundai Sonata, was traveling south in the inside lane of Broadway when he noticed the woman in the road.
Spokesman Mike Jachles explained that he tried to swerve to avoid hitting her but ended up striking her. The victim was identified as Michelle Anita Neville, aged 50.
In his attempt to avoid hitting Neville, the driver collided with a concrete median. He continued south on Broadway for a short distance but later returned to the scene upon realizing that he had struck the pedestrian, according to Jachles.
Neville was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center by the West Palm Beach Fire Department, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
It was not until late Sunday night that the homicide unit investigators managed to locate and inform a local family about the victim.
As of now, no charges have been filed, but the investigation remains open.
