A Florida family has been arrested in connection with the death of the father, David Rainey, who was found stabbed in a canal while they were on vacation over two years ago.

David Rainey, a 52-year-old resident of Palm Coast, was vacationing with his family in Suwannee when his wife reported him missing, according to a statement from the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office.

Cindy Rainey informed the police that her husband had left the cabin “after the couple had gotten into an argument” and didn’t return. David left behind his glasses, wallet, and phone.

The following day, his body, which had been stabbed multiple times in the chest, was discovered submerged in a canal behind the rented cabin.

Though investigators have not named a suspect or person of interest in the case, they suspect that the victim’s wife, Cindy Rainey, and their sons, Bailey Rainey and Jack Rainey, may have tampered with the crime scene.

All three were arrested last week on charges of tampering with evidence. The police have not released specific details regarding the allegations.

It remains unclear whether Rainey’s family members have entered pleas to the charges. As of now, none of them could be reached for comment, and information about their lawyers is not available.
