High School Student Receives Full Scholarship to Ivy League School!

ORLANDO, Fla. – Zavier Avera is a student at Jones High School, and he is always happy. That’s because he’s going to Yale University in the fall and will be the first player from his school to get a full scholarship to an Ivy League school.

“I didn’t think God would put me in this situation. Zavier Avera said, “I worked very hard.”

News 6 was there when he announced his school’s choice at his signing day in December. The basketball player who switched to football is a star on both the court and the field. He also has a 4.9 GPA and will be eighth in his class when he graduates.

The high school student said, “Going to Jones High School was the best choice I’ve ever made.”

Kimberly Avera, Zavier’s mom, is so happy she can’t stand it. She said that as a single mother, it meant a lot that her son had coaches, teachers, a director, and many other people who helped him.

She said, “It’s just a blessing to have good people in your life who care about a child who isn’t even theirs.” “He did the work for the 4.9 GPA, but I had to make sure by keeping an eye on him. You’ve got to get your work.”

Elijah Williams, who is the head football teacher at Jones High, said that Zavier Avera is a star and that he has seen him improve.

Williams said, “I really think he has a chance to go play in the NFL because he wants to, has heart, and doesn’t give up.” “He works, and he’s hungry.”

He said that it was important to do well in school and to listen to his parents, teachers, and trainers.

Dr. Alex Jackson is the school’s assistant director. He used to teach Zavier Avera in basketball.

“A very smart person is going to Yale. Jackson said, “He is the kind of person we want our student athletes to be like.”

Zavier Avera said that the coach of his team was very good.

He said, “Our coach taught us to work as a team, work hard, and never give up.”

The advice he gives to other boys is the same.

“Don’t ever give up on your dreams, and don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something in life,” said Zavier Avera.

He said that in the fall, he will go to Yale University to study computer science.

He said that his dream is to play in the NFL, but if that doesn’t happen, he wants to build spaceships for Lockheed Martin or NASA.
