Justice Sought as Man Faces Murder Charge in Five Points Shooting

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has reported the apprehension of 22-year-old Jaelin Ieon Leroy in connection with the deadly shooting near Five Points on Saturday night.

According to the JSO, around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, patrol officers were in the 1000 block of Park St. in the 5 Points area when they heard a single gunshot.

A large crowd reportedly scattered after the gunshot was heard.

The officers then observed an adult male on the ground who appeared to have been shot. At the same time, they noticed another adult male nearby holding a firearm. This person was detained without any issues.

The officers provided life-saving measures while the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) was called for additional assistance. Despite their efforts, the victim’s injuries were fatal. The victim was taken to a local hospital by the JFRD, where they were pronounced deceased.

Homicide and Crime Scene Detectives were summoned to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jaelin Ieon Leroy, who had previously been detained by patrol officers, was arrested for murder and subsequently booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, and further details will be disclosed as the inquiry progresses.
