Lakeland Police Arrest Woman for Disposing of Dead Newborn in Dumpster

LAKELAND, Fla. — On Thursday, a lady who was 34 years old was arrested in Lakeland after investigators say she threw her newborn baby’s body into a dumpster after the baby had died.

It was discovered that Brusela D’Enstachio-Lugo was responsible for the storage, preservation, and transportation of human remains.

According to a news release issued by the Lakeland Police Department, preliminary investigations from the Medical Examiner’s office suggested the full-term infant was delivered dead, never took a breath, and had serious brain malformation. This information was gleaned through the baby’s autopsy. The preliminary investigation revealed that the infant had not been murdered.

According to law enforcement, D’Enstachio-Lugo went to the police station herself to talk with detectives after the images of people who were believed to have information about the newborn found in the dumpster were released.

She is said to have admitted to giving birth alone outside of her home during the early morning hours on Wednesday.

She also reportedly informed the investigators that she did not realize she was pregnant prior to giving delivery. According to the authorities, the woman, who was 34 years old at the time, thought she was becoming sick and only had minor symptoms associated with being pregnant.

According to the authorities, D’Enstachio-Lugo told the investigators that the reason she did not go to the hospital after giving birth was because she was an undocumented immigrant and did not want to get into any difficulty.

It was later in the evening when she gave birth, and she acknowledged to placing the newborn’s remains in the dumpster, according to the police. She also did not have any money to pay for any potential medical expenditures.

According to the press release, “DNA was collected from the female in order to compare it with that of the deceased infant.” “The Department of Homeland Security was contacted regarding the immigration status of the individual, and they provided information on the case.”

The inquiry into the incident is still going on at this time.
