DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Local food banks are still working hard to feed as many families as they can, even though inflation is still making it hard for people to pay their bills.
Over the last two weeks, organizers at Eat Better Live Better in Delray Beach have seen long lines and a greater need.
When the team first started up in 2016, its main goal was to teach people about diet. Since COVID-19, however, that goal has grown and changed.
The founder of Eat Better Live Better, Debra Tendrich, said, “Since 2020, we’ve given almost 2 million pounds of healthy food to families.”
Tendrich says that COVID-19 only touched a small portion of the population, but that inflation affects everyone and that people who didn’t need help before are now in need of help.
Last month, the organization received a record number of applications, but this month, it has received nearly 200 more.
“We need help from the community to keep taking care of the number of families who come through our doors. “Communities can hold food drives, become grocery guardians, and sponsor families,” said Tendrich.
Tendrich says they want to find a new place so they can get more help and food.
