MIAMI – Marcus Terry has been incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County since last Friday, accused of murdering a fellow inmate over two years ago.
Terry, aged 40, is alleged to have used a pen to fatally stab Ray Matos in the head after sharing a cell with him for around six days, as stated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
According to records from the Florida Department of Corrections, Terry expressed, “We shouldn’t have been put in the same cell… I wish to end my own life,” as reported by Sgt. Tadarius Bryant.
Terry had been serving a life sentence for armed burglary and armed robbery in Broward County since 2012, as documented by the Florida Department of Corrections.
Similarly, Matos, aged 63, had been serving a life sentence for attempted murder and armed robbery in Miami-Dade County since 2003, as indicated by the Florida Department of Corrections.
An inmate reported hearing what sounded like a fight lasting 10 to 15 minutes, while another inmate claimed to have seen Terry disrobed and with blood-stained hands, according to a warrant.
On April 19, 2021, a correctional officer discovered Matos with head injuries in a cell at the Dade Correctional Institute located at 1900 SW 377 St., south of Florida City.
Following these events, a Miami-Dade judge ordered Terry’s relocation from the Florida State Prison in Raiford, situated at 23916 NW 83 Ave. in northern Florida’s Union County. Terry was facing a second-degree murder charge.
