Orlando Airport Shut Down for Hours After Major Thunderstorms!

ORLANDO, Fla. – After severe storms on Saturday forced Orlando International Airport to ground all flights and caused damage to a portion of the airport, the weather was much more favorable for flying on Sunday.

According to the airport, the curbside departures area for Terminal C was closed on Sunday afternoon due to damage caused by the thunderstorms that occurred on Saturday night.

At the brand-new airport terminal, you are looking at the level 2 curbside area. The airport did not provide any specifics on the nature of the damage that was sustained.

Sunday evening at around 7 o’clock, the airport reopened its curbside level.

Storms on Saturday caused flight cancellations and considerable delays not just at Orlando International Airport (MCO), but also at the state’s other major airports.

Flights were delayed by at least 45 minutes, if not for a longer period of time, as a result of the ground stop that the Federal Aviation Administration imposed for MCO. This ground halt continued into the evening.

Despite the fact that the weather was improved on Sunday, MCO airport was issued a weather alert because of the strong winds. This warning was canceled at around 5 o’clock on Sunday afternoon.
