Authorities say that two women stole five cell phones and other things from people who didn’t know what was going on at a music event in South Florida.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office online jail records, Briyith Nunez, 30, and Angelica Fernandez, 24, both of West Palm Beach, were taken early on Sunday.
Online records show that Nunez was charged with four counts of grand theft of things worth less than $5,000 and one count of fighting or hindering arrest without violence.
According to internet records, Fernandez was charged with four counts of grand theft of things under $5,000, two counts of fighting or blocking arrest without violence, and five counts of robbery by quick snatching.
WPEC-TV reported that the West Palm Beach Police Department says the two women stole the phones at the SunFest music event in downtown West Palm Beach on Saturday.
According to the TV station, the claimed thefts took place around 10 p.m. EDT. A concertgoer noticed that her phone was missing after two women brushed up against her during the show. This is how the police found out about the thefts.
Officers also found the women with $1,800 in cash, credit cards, bank cards, store gift cards, at least one driver’s license, a college ID card, and a personal check that didn’t belong to them, according to a TV station.
WPTV said that four of the five cell phones that the cops took have been given back to their owners. According to the TV station, two of the victims live in Florida, in Orlando and Boynton Beach. The other two victims are from Maryland and South Carolina.
Police told WPTV that a fifth person has not come forward.
Mike Jachles, a police spokesman, told the Sun-Sentinel in an email statement that at first, the suspects wouldn’t give their names or IDs to law enforcement.
“They both fought against being arrested. They both spoke Spanish, refused to do what the officers said, and fought with them,” Jachles told WPTV.
Online records show that Nunez was let out of jail Sunday night after he paid a $13,000 bail. Records show that Fernandez is still in the Palm Beach County Jail. His bail is set at $12,000.
