The Auto Theft Task Force of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has successfully apprehended an individual responsible for stealing a car from a dealership in Pasco County.
On Monday, December 11, 2023, task force members conducted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Charger at the intersection of East Busch Boulevard and North Larkhall Place, citing multiple traffic infractions.
Through investigative methods, detectives uncovered that the VIN number had been altered, and the vehicle was reported stolen from a Pasco County car dealership on June 25, 2023.
Detectives also discovered a concealed switch that operated a black cover over the license plate, effectively hiding it from view.
“This individual thought he was going to get away with this crime by hiding the tag of the car he stole. But let me tell you, our detectives are top-notch. They’re not just good; they’re exceptional at what they do,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “This is a clear message to criminals: you can’t outsmart us. Our commitment to keeping our community safe is firm, and those who think they can commit a crime, steal from hardworking people and businesses, will face the consequences.”
