TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police are currently investigating the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old child near the border of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties on Tuesday evening.
Initial findings from the investigation indicate that a confrontation between two groups escalated into gunfire. According to authorities, the child was shot in the head. Emergency services promptly transported the child to a local hospital, where they were sadly pronounced dead.
In addition to the child, an adult man sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. The man was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover from his non-life-threatening injuries.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family of this innocent child,” stated Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our detectives will relentlessly pursue the identification and apprehension of all individuals involved.”
The incident occurred along the Courtney Campbell Causeway in Tampa.
