The Tampa Police Department has informed the public that they have taken into custody two people in connection with a shooting that took place on Thursday evening and resulted in the injuries of two other people.
Both Jaquone Penny, age 26, and Myron Griffin, age 23, have been charged with shooting into a car, first-degree premeditated attempted murder with a firearm, and aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon.
These charges were brought against both of them simultaneously. It is alleged that Jaquone Penny aimed his gun at Myron Griffin with the purpose of taking his life.
As revealed by the police, the suspects reportedly followed the victims all the way from W. Boy Scout Boulevard to the location of the shooting on Dale Mabry near Interstate 275.
The location of the shooting was approximately a mile away from W. Boy Scout Boulevard. The two suspects are said to have opened fire on the victim’s vehicle while it was stopped at the red light, causing two of the four people who were inside the vehicle to be injured as a result of the incident, as stated in the statements provided by the police.
According to the police, the suspects fled the site of the incident in a high-speed vehicle after the shooting had place.
One of the victims was transferred to a hospital nearby, where they were treated, and they were eventually discharged; however, the second victim is still in serious condition in the hospital where they were both taken.
The interim chief of police, Lee Bercaw, was quoted as saying, “These suspects put not only the lives of their victims but also all those who were traveling on this always busy roadway in danger.”
