A teenager from Gibsonton lost his life in a crash early Sunday morning in the Apollo Beach area of Hillsborough County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to troopers, around 1:57 a.m., a 44-year-old man from Wimauma was driving a Chevrolet Equinox south on U.S. 41, while a second car, an Acura TL driven by the 17-year-old Gibsonton boy, was traveling north on the same road.

Near the Villemaire Road intersection, the driver of the Chevrolet made a U-turn into the path of the Acura, causing a collision, according to troopers.

Despite the teen’s attempt to avoid the Chevrolet, the two vehicles collided. After the crash, the Acura veered onto the grass median, rotated back across the roadway, and ended up on the east shoulder.

Subsequently, it struck a concrete culvert, overturned multiple times, and ultimately collided with a light pole and several parked cars at the 1st Rate Auto Dealership located at 5301 N. U.S. 41, troopers stated.

Regrettably, the 17-year-old succumbed to the injuries at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet emerged from the incident unharmed, according to troopers.

No further details have been disclosed at this time.
