CLEWISTON, Fla. — A man is in jail because he is accused of robbing an arcade with a BB gun and trying to get away from police in a car that was stolen.
The Clewiston Police Department says that Chad Mitchell Waldrep of Hollywood, Florida, tried to rob 777 Arcade on West Sugarland Highway with a gun at around 2 a.m. on April 16.
Police say that Waldrep wore a mask when he went into the playground and told everyone to get down on the ground.
Police say that during the robbery, a security guard was there and fired a single shot at Waldrep.
No one got hurt in the fight, but Waldrep left the scene before police could get there. Police say they found the black BB gun when they looked around the scene.
Later, police were called to an apartment building at 409 South Pan Pedro Street to check out a strange car. People who called said they saw a man slouched over at the wheel.
When cops arrived, Waldrep ran away, leading them to chase him in a car, police say.
Police say that the car Waldrep used to get away from them had been reported stolen.
Police say that when they caught Waldrep, he told them that he had been shot earlier that night. On the suspect’s lower back, police found a bullet hole.
Police say that he was taken to Hendry Regional Medical Center and then flown to a trauma center.
