On the side of a Florida highway, a sheriff’s deputy assisted in the delivery of a baby, and frantic body cam footage reveals that he even had the parents smiling during the ordeal.
The incident took place on Highway 60 near Plant City on Sunday, April 30, at around 5:30 p.m., and the final result was described as a “healthy baby girl,” according to a news release issued by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
“In a state of fear, a motorist came running up to Master Deputy Daniel ‘Red’ Jones. According to the report from the sheriff’s office, the driver indicated that his pregnant wife was ready to give delivery.
On the side of the road, he rushed to the aid of the expecting mother and assisted her in giving birth while remaining completely unfazed.
In addition to providing consistent encouragement and emotional support, he employed his expertise to ensure that the birth went well. Within a short amount of time, a beautiful and robust little girl was brought into the world.
The mother can be seen in the video crouching in an uncomfortable position across the front seat of the couple’s car as the infant is delivered.
Jones arrived fully prepared, wearing protective gloves, and can be seen clutching the mother’s hand while shooting off questions on the state of her pregnancy and the frequency of her contractions.
After that, he engaged in some idle chitchat.
“Is this your first child?” I asked. No? How many?” Jones proclaims this, not knowing that this will be their sixth kid.
“Six? You two need to find a more enjoyable pastime.
This offered a temporary diversion for the couple, who were laughing at the time, but it was immediately followed by the birth of a crying newborn.
“I got a baby!” Jones says. “A lovely little child. … That is a remarkably lovely sound.
Officials stated that Jones had made sure to call Hillsborough Fire & Rescue, who arrived in time to transport the girl to a hospital for assessment. Jones had made sure to notify them.
The deputy advised the couple as he was saying goodbye that they might think about calling their daughter “Red.”
According to the announcement, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister noted that Jones had been working for the sheriff’s office since December 2001 and that this was not the first time he had assisted in the delivery of a baby.
This is the third time that he has assisted a local resident in giving birth to a child. According to Chronister.
“Even though the mother of six was going to have to give birth in the front seat of a car, Master Deputy Jones reassured her that she was in safe hands and that everything would be all right.
I want to take this opportunity to send my best wishes to the proud new parents of a beautiful newborn girl. About 25 miles to the northeast of Tampa is the city of Plant City.
