TAMPA, Fla. — Detectives say a mother is in jail for murder because she admitted to shaking her baby to death.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said that on April 17, a trauma warning was sent from All Children’s Hospital in Pinellas County about a baby who was not responding. The hospital then got in touch with authorities.
Even though doctors and nurses tried to help, the baby died four days later on April 21.
Detectives talked to the baby’s mother, Haley Barclay, who is 26 years old. She told the police that she had shaken the baby on April 12 and 13. Detectives charged Barclay with both child abuse and child neglect which was very bad.
The Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Monday that the baby’s death will be considered murder. Barclay was charged with first-degree criminal murder while he was abusing a child in a very bad way.
Child Protective Investigations is now taking care of Barclay’s other children, the sheriff’s office said.
