A man who allegedly duped a lady into joining a human trafficking ring was taken into custody by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, deputies reported that an employee at the Rodeway Inn on North U.S. Highway 301 reported that a woman with impairments needed assistance.
The 29-year-old woman was reportedly reported missing from Missouri, and the sheriff’s office claims that she was duped into traveling to Florida by 39-year-old Andre Scott.
According to deputies, the victim was taken to Florida by Scott and his girlfriend after she initially made contact with them.
Detectives stated the texts from Scott suggested he was attempting to persuade her to “hustle” for him. The victim told investigators she was forced into having sex.
Scott reportedly inquired about the victim’s involvement in group sex parties and her sale of “explicit content online,” according to the sheriff’s office.
“Fighting against human trafficking and dismantling these criminal operations remains a forefront commitment to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “Our Human Trafficking Section remains relentless in rescuing victims, bringing perpetrators to justice, and raising awareness to help prevent the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.”
The victim received care from a mental health professional from Florida Mentor, who also assisted in reuniting the girl with her Missourian guardian, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to the sheriff’s office, they are searching for any further victims in this case. For further information, give HCSO a call at 813-247-8200.
The woman’s identity will not be disclosed due to the delicate nature of the charges.
