HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies said in a news release on Tuesday that a 25-year-old man was arrested in Hillsborough County on charges that he was selling fentanyl.
Joaun Wright was charged with armed fentanyl trafficking, fentanyl trafficking, and having a controlled substance in his possession.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in the release that law enforcement found out about Wright’s actions when they looked into overdoses that didn’t end in death in the area.
During a three-week operation, authorities say they found Wright as the source of an overdose in the county.
In a statement, Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “We all know how terrible fentanyl is for our community.” “This very strong drug has caused a lot of overdoses and is a serious threat to public safety.
“I’m glad that our deputies caught this dangerous criminal and are working hard to make Hillsborough County a safer place for families to live.”
When the 25-year-home old’s was searched, deputies say they found 40 grams of fentanyl, a loaded gun, illegal prescription pills, and more than $7,000 in cash. At the house, there were also two children.
The sheriff’s office says Wright hid the drugs he was selling by putting them in a Pringles can with a false bottom.
Wright was also charged with having a gun, ammunition, and a number of other drug-related offenses.
