According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody after threatening to carry out a mass shooting at a middle school in the state of Texas.
On Thursday, authorities were made aware of a continuing written threat that had been made by a boy against a school in the San Antonio area.
Working with the FBI, the department identified an Instagram account that posted statements such, “Imma do a shooting at Driscoll middle school on October 21st” and “Y’all got until Friday to find out who I am Or else everyone dies.”
The 14-year-old child was found in a house in Tampa, which turned out to be the location where the threats originated.
According to the deputies, the teenager admitted to creating a phony Instagram profile and using the photo of a former classmate from the middle school where he was enrolled before dropping out in February 2023.
“I commend the quick work of the STAR Team investigators, who worked diligently to identify and apprehend this wayward teen,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “We do not take lightly any school threats that would harm students or faculty, whether in Hillsborough County or any other state. I urge parents to talk to their children and remind them that even empty threats can come with the full weight of the law.”
