After a run into Martin County, Port St. Lucie police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 39-year-old man near a bar early on Sunday morning.
Elijah Inchauteguiz of Port St. Lucie was taken to jail in Fort Pierce. He is being charged with murder and running and eluding, according to an updated news release from the agency sent out Sunday night by Sgt. John Dellacroce.
Dellacroce wrote earlier in a news release that this shooting was not a random act of violence but instead was aimed at a certain person.
At 2:02 a.m., police were called to the 1700 block of Southeast Port St. Lucie Boulevard, where Harpers Pub is, because someone had shot someone.
Officers found an unidentified dead guy lying in the road on Southeast Greendon Avenue behind Harpers Pub. It looked like he had been shot.
Police said they saw a motorbike leave the scene and chased it into Martin County when it wouldn’t stop for them. His name turned out to be Inchauteguiz.
On Southwest Citrus Boulevard, the rider was caught by police.
Jerry Whitcomb, who lives nearby, told WPTV’s Briana Nespral, “I’d like to say, ‘Wow, I’m surprised,’ but since we moved to this area from up north, just watching the news, there’s more and more crime and shootings.” “I just think that there isn’t anywhere safe. It’s possible anywhere.”
