STUART, Fla. —The Animal Services unit of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has been looking for a group of dogs that were left on a big piece of land.
The sheriff’s office said that sometime Sunday, the driver of a car pushed out a group of dogs in a dark, highly wooded area on a two-lane highway with ditches and rough terrain. The driver took off right away, leaving the animals on their own.
Animal Services said that once they were told about the dogs, the unit searched for them for hours, going back to the area whenever they could.
The sheriff’s office said that one of the dogs was found by a driver who was passing by. The other dog was found on Thursday in very bad shape.
One of the dogs died before it could be saved because a car hit it and killed it.
Animal Services saved and took in the fourth dog later that same day.
Animal Services is trying to save a fifth dog that was left behind. Animal Services will keep looking for the dogs even though they don’t know how many were thrown out of the car.
For the safety of the people, deputies said they would not tell where the dogs were dropped off. The sheriff’s office knows that many people want to help with the search, but the place where the dogs were dumped is very dangerous. Animal Services will keep working to save the animals.
Officers from Animal Services talk about how the three dogs are doing. People say that the dogs could rest and take long naps.
Thanks to the hard work of the people at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, they have eaten and are doing well.
